Leveraging Healthie’s out-of-the-box solution and API is business-critical for Swap Health

Looking ahead, Swap Health plans to leverage Healthie’s health goals and objective tracking features by integrating them into their own patient-facing app. This will allow patients to access a full suite of Swap services and track their health progress incrementally. “Our dietitians are already using Healthie, and patients will see Healthie’s functionality through our app in the future,” explains Aaron Doades. This will enhance both patient engagement and care outcomes while reducing internal headaches.

Swap Health faced the challenge of finding an EHR that could support seamless external communication. “We work with health systems and hospitals to act as their outpatient clinical nutrition solution, so sharing notes back and forth is really important to us,” explains co-founder & CEO, Aaron Doades. As their previous solution lacked flexibility, Aaron noted that “we needed API access because we deliver a very specific experience, and need to build custom tech on top of an off-the-shelf solution in order for us to be successful."

Swap Health acquired Dietitian in Your Kitchen, a dietitian practice that had been using Healthie for years.“They were so, so happy with it,” says Aaron. “And they had used another EHR in the past, which they did not like. As a result, it is a no-brainer to continue using Healthie on a larger scale, especially when hearing that it could really scale for us.” After comparing options, Swap Health made the switch to Healthie, valuing its flexibility and purpose-built design for dietitians, which proved ideal for their evolving needs. 

Healthie provided Swap Health with the adaptable solution they needed to overcome communication and customization hurdles. Its ability to support external communication with hospitals was crucial. “Healthie is pretty powerful in terms of being able to communicate externally, even if it’s via E-fax, which is still the main form of communication for a lot of hospitals,” notes Aaron Doades, co-founder & CEO.

The comprehensive API Healthie offers was another game-changer, enabling Swap Health to build the custom tools they required without sacrificing functionality. “We needed to reinterpret some of the off-the-shelf functionality with our own front-end, and Healthie has the most powerful API capabilities to let us do that,” Aaron explains. Swap Health’s dietitians also appreciated Healthie’s intuitive design, especially for charting and journaling, which streamlined their workflows and prepared the team for future growth.
